I have been quoted in Financial express on TCS’s employee retention

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services exporter, has clearly outstripped its nearest rival, Infosys, on the human resource (HR) parameter as well, retaining 40% of the total employees hired during FY14. On the other hand, Infosys was able to retain only 9% of the total employees hired in the fiscal.

In FY14, gross employee hiring at TCS was 61,200 while the net addition was 24,268, which works out to an absorption ratio of 40%. In the case of Infosys, the total gross addition was 39,985 while the net intake was only 3,717, which results in an absorption rate of 9.2%.

Hiring through Social Media – more of a fashion statement than reality!

A lot has been written about hiring through social media and alternative channels, however recruiters on the ground know how difficult it is to fulfill requirements through social media in current times specially when requirements always come with a back-dated closure time. I agree that Social media offers a great platform to build brand, build presence and collect feedback from potential employees who may not be active job seekers but this will remain a secondary source of fulfilling positions for some more time. Social media does help in reaching out to millions in a short time but the challenge lies in getting a timely response from targeted candidate.
